Saint Pope John II in his encyclical letter, Ecclesia de Eucharist, draws our attention to the fact that, “In the Eucharist we have Jesus, we have his redemptive sacrifice, we have his resurrection, we have the gift of the Holy Spirit, we have adoration, obedience and love of the Father.” All of this Jesus gives us if we only meet him in the Adoration Chapel, and sit quietly in his Presence surrendering to his action within our heart and soul.

St Peter Julian Eymard underlined the urgency of Eucharistic Adoration for the renewal of our parishes and of the world:

"Today solemn exposition of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the grace and the need of our time.  It is the sovereign grace.  Exposition is the powerful weapon at the disposal of the Church and of the faithful ... We are not afraid to say: the Worship and the Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament is the need of our time ... This worship is necessary to save society.  Society is dying because it has no center of truth and charity, but it will be reborn in full force when all its members gather around the life of Jesus in the Eucharist.  Go back to the source, to Jesus - especially to Jesus in the Eucharist ... It is well known: a civilization grows or decreases according to its worship of the Blessed Eucharist.  This is its life and the measure of its faith, its love, its virtue.  What the reign of the Eucharist will bring to pass!  Impiety and ingratitude have reigned on earth for long enough.  Thy kingdom come!"

Last Thursday our Lord Jesus Christ gave to us the greatest gift He possibly could have while  on earth, Himself.  This gift is meant to carry us through our spiritual journey on earth, and prepare us for meeting Him in His heavenly home.

To take full advantage of this gift we must embrace it and use it to experience “the greatest peace, calm and joy that comes from being in the presence of the Bridegroom of our souls.”  No one, certainly nothing else on this earth, will ultimately satisfy our deepest longings.  In all creation, in all the beautiful things and people He has made, we see something of Him.

In the Eucharist, we see Him.  Not as we shall see Him when we leave this world, not as He wants to be known by us in eternity, but in the form in which He has chosen to come to us on our earthly journey.  Someday, when this present darkness ends and God is “all in all,” we shall see His beloved face, and we shall be embraced by and love the One Who made us out of love, redeemed us, gave Himself to darkest death for us.

For now, we gaze up at Him as our food encircled by light.  The Eucharist we adore is the window to heaven, the true Body of Our Lord truly present.  “Oh come let us adore Him.”

Adoration Is An Extension Of Celebration

In the Eucharist, the Son of God comes to meet us and desires to become one with us.  Eucharistic Adoration is simply the natural consequence of the Eucharistic celebration, which is itself the Church’s supreme act of adoration.  Receiving the Eucharist means adoring him whom we receive.  Only in this way do we become one with him, and are given, as it were, a foretaste of the beauty of the heavenly liturgy.  The act of Adoration outside Mass prolongs and intensifies all that takes place during the liturgical celebration itself.  Indeed, “only in adoration can a profound and genuine reception mature.  And it is precisely this personal encounter with the Lord that then strengthens the social mission contained in the Eucharist, which seeks to break down not only the walls that separate the Lord and ourselves, but also and especially the walls that separate us from one another.” (address to the Roman Curia, 12/22/05)

Lent is an invitation to develop a deeper relationship with Jesus

Honoring The Eucharist
Just watch a daily news broadcast, or read the news pushed to an electronic device, and it’s easy to recognize the ingratitude of the majority of the human race towards the Eucharistic Lord.  Every way we look we find real examples of how Christianity is being persecuted and how that persecution continues to grow.

As Eucharistic Adorers we make acts of reparation to repair the offenses made against the infinitely great Divine Majesty for those who ignore Him, those who insult Him, those who deny His Real Presence on earth and mock Him.

One of our Catholic missions is to console the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Merciful Father.  We beg forgiveness for those guilty and offer reparation as a holy ransom, imploring Gods’ Divine Mercy.

If you’re not part of the consolation movement of Our Lord Jesus and His Merciful Father for the sins committed by the ignorance of the human race, it’s not too late to join.  When God made each of us He set a ‘timer’ governing our earthly existence.  When that hour glass runs dry you have no more time, and can no longer in any way help yourself.  So don’t wait - start today.  Become a committed Adorer.

 If Only You Could Touch His Cloak

Whenever we receive the Eucharist we touch Jesus and Jesus touches us.  Truly, we physically touch each other.  What was once bread has been changed into Jesus Himself.  He didn’t just rise from the dead two thousand years ago.  He is risen, and is present to us in these moments.  That small white wafer is not a symbol but is His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity within us.  By having Jesus closer than close we give him the opportunity to make us better people from the inside out.  With a better understanding of this mystery comes the realization of how blessed and fortunate we are to be the sons and daughters of God and able too often enter into physical contact with him.

Recall the Bible story of the women who had suffered with hemorrhages for twelve years and the tremendous faith she had that if only she could touch his clothes she would be cured. (Mark 5:25-28)  Her faith moved her to want to touch him just once in her lifetime.  We have the opportunity to touch him almost daily.

Visit the Adoration Chapel.  Ask Jesus to increase your faith so that you can have a better understanding of the privileges of being a son or daughter of God.

Next time you’re in the chapel, pray for greater awareness of Jesus in your life.  He won’t disappoint because He promised to always be us.  The only question left: Will you choose to be with Him?

'OPEN' Adoration Hours

We Are In Need Of People To Cover ‘Open’ Adoration Hours

All hours of our Adoration schedule are open to additional assigned adorers.  There are however some hours in specific need of new or additional adorers.  The Church asks that two people be present when the Eucharist is exposed for Adoration.  Our current committed schedule has 44% of our hours covered by only one committed adorer.  There are many opportunities to help.  If you are not currently committed to Adoration we ask you to pray to the Holy Spirit and ask the question if Adoration is right for you.  If you would like to commit to an hour you can sign-up by going directly to the AdorationPro software and registering for an hour with God.  If you have questions, please contact Tom Kartes at 616-325-9305 or via eMail at tjkartes44@gmail.com

“Around the year 700 there was a priest in Lanciano, Italy, who was struggling with his faith in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.  One morning, while celebrating Mass, he was astonished to see the host change into real flesh and the wine into real blood.  His initial shock gave way to joy as he proclaimed to those near him: “Behold the flesh and blood of our most beloved Christ!” 

After repeated and thorough investigations, scientists concluded that the flesh and blood actually do belong to the human species.  More specifically, the flesh consists of myocardial tissue (the muscular tissue on the heart wall), and the blood contains just the right proteins in the same proportions as normal human blood.  Even though this miracle occurred thirteen centuries ago, both the flesh and blood remain intact and are on display in the Church of St. Francis in Lanciano.”  (Encountering Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration - the WORD among us)

This is the same body and blood that is on the altar every time Mass is celebrated in our churches, and the same body and blood of our Lord Jesus found in our Adoration Chapel.  If he were still walking the earth and preaching as he did 2000 years ago you wouldn’t be able to find an empty seat not only in our Adoration Chapel, but in the whole church.  If you have any doubts I would hope to find you on your knees in the Adoration Chapel praying to the Holy Spirit to increase your faith.  This is truly real.

Easter Blessings

 Are You Ready For The Blessings Of Easter?

Pope John Paul II reminded us in an encyclical that the church draws her life from the Eucharist.  Christ promised to “remain with us always, until the end of time” (Mt 28:20), and that promise has been kept in the Eucharist.  Here at IHM, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is an important daily practice and an inexhaustible source of holiness and blessing for the parish and for those who personally participate by spending time in our chapel each week.

“If in our time Christians must be distinguished above all by the act of prayer, how can we not feel a renewed need to spend time in spiritual conversation, in silent adoration, in heartfelt love, before Christ present in the most holy sacrament?” (Pope John Paul II).  Eucharistic adoration is a primary source of strength, consolation and support, both spiritually as well as physically.

The season of Lent is set aside to help us prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Easter.  Take advantage of the opportunity given through Eucharistic Adoration.

Eucharistic Adoration is one of the better ways to prepare for the journey that is ours.  You do not have to be a ‘committed’ adorer to spend time in the chapel.  If you’re not a regular … Jesus would love to see you stop by the chapel and spend as much time as your schedule allows whenever it’s convenient.

“The simplest way to express what Christ asks us to believe about the Real Presence is that the Eucharist is really He.  The Real Presence is the real Jesus. 

We are to believe that the Eucharist began in the womb of the Virgin Mary; that the flesh which the Son of God received from His Mother at the Incarnation is the same flesh into which He changed bread at the Last Supper; that the blood He received from His Mother is the same blood into which He changed wine at the Last Supper.  Had she not given Him His flesh and blood there could not be a Eucharist.  We are to believe that the Eucharist is Jesus Christ - simply - without qualification.  It is God become man in the fullness of His divine nature, in the fullness of His human nature, in the fullness of His body and soul, in the fullness of everything that makes Jesus Jesus.  He is in the Eucharist with His human mind and will united with Divinity, with His hands and feet, His face and features, with His eyes and lips and ears and nostrils, with His affections and emotions and, with emphasis, with His living, pulsating, physical Sacred Heart.  That is what our Catholic Faith demands of us that we believe.  If we believe this, we are Catholic.  If we do not, we are not, no matter what people may think we are.”  (Father John A Hardon SJ)
