Peace, Peace, I Will Give You Peace!

 Sitting silently in the presence of God is one of the most beautiful gifts He offers us.  Jesus tenderly and lovingly is      saying to us, “Just sit with Me”.  You don’t have to have a mental prayer running through your head, nor be reciting a litany from a prayer book, nor fingering your rosary beads.  Sit quietly, close your eyes, and know He is so close to you that if you could see Him you could reach out and touch Him.  Remember where Jesus is there also is God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, as well as the Church Triumphant.  How fortunate we are to be baptized into the Church Militant.

This week as you go about putting together the puzzle pieces to make sence of your schedule remember that you also need to have ‘Jesus time’.  If you would spend 10 or 15 minutes of Chapel Time once or twice a week in Eucharistic Adoration you will find His Peace.

By trading some of your couch time for chapel time you enhance that positive internal change brought about by the Indwelling Trinity.  There is no ‘down side’ - you have EVERYTHING to gain.  Why not start today?

A Worthwhile Change In The New Year

 Looking For A Change?

Every moment spent in the Eucharistic Presence of Jesus Christ increases His divine life within you and deepens your personal relationship and friendship with Him.  “I have come that you may have life, and have it more abundantly.”  “I am the Vine and you are the branches.  Whoever remains in union with Me shall bear much fruit for without Me, you can do nothing.” (Jn 10:10; 15:5)  We’ve all heard those words many times, but for many it’s like water off a duck, they simply don’t sink in.  This new year why not make a concerted effort to sincerely try to grow your relationship with God?  If you ask Him; He would love to help you.

There is no 11th Commandment that says if you visit Jesus in His Eucharistic Presence you have to spend this amount of time.  Nor is there a recommendation as to the proper way to pray.  Jesus is happy when you simply stop by for a visit and let Him do the work.  You can start with just a few minutes; but if you start with that, it won’t be long before your heart will be rewarded and you will want to spend more time with Him.

Starting this new year may be your ‘right time’ to step up and show God you want to better your relationship and will make the effort to visit him often in the chapel.  Chapel time is not the only way to show God how much you love Him, but it is a way near and dear to His Sacred Heart.  The harder it is for you to find time to visit, the greater the benefit.  God knows how precious our ‘time’ is, and when we offer a portion to Him its repaid a hundred times.  Give it a try and see for yourself.

Good Time for a Change

 Resolution   (Definition: the act or process to find a solution to a negative habit or problem resulting in a change of behavior to make better.)  

Sounds easier than it is … right?  Most of us learned from experience that a few days after making a New Year’s resolution we struggle to remember what that resolution was.  We know that a resolution doesn’t have to be something you give up; it could be a ‘good’ thing you resolve to do more of.  But if you can’t remember, what good is it?  So I ask: Why would you want to put yourself into a similar situation again this year?  You don’t have to.  I offer you the suggestion of an act or process to change that is permeated with Divine Help.

That suggestion is simply to spend more time in the true presence of our God.  Yes, - Chapel Time!  Spending as little as 60 minutes a week insures the development of a good habit that pays dividends for eternity.  Every time you spend any amount of time in the Adoration Chapel sitting quietly in God’s presence He refills your ‘resolve’ bucket to overflowing.  You never run out of desire to ‘make better’.  What a blessing!  And, listen to this; you don’t have to do anything.  That’s right - just sit in his presence and let him do the work.


If you haven’t been to the chapel, now might be a good time to make a ‘resolve’ to change.  We ask for an hour a week; you don’t have to start with that.  But I will tell you from experience it’s the hour every week that goes by the fastest.  God will be pleased with any amount … what is important is the commitment. So whether it’s 15 minutes, a half hour or a full hour, the important thing is to ‘commit’.

Chapel Time - Priceless

God loves to see us present in the Adoration Chapel anytime … but He is particularly pleased when we commit to spend time with Him on a regular basis - show your love through a weekly commitment of your time.

Listen to God's Invite

God’s Invitation

Need time to catch your breath and put a little normalcy back into your life?  As in all things, God is ahead of us because he gives us a standing invitation to step away from the busyness and noise of everyday living when he says in Matt 11:28-29, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.”

You can find that ‘rest’ spending time in His Real Presence in the Adoration Chapel.  The beauty of this ‘rest’ is that you don’t have to do anything but show up.  You simply sit in His presence and God does the work.  All you need is a little trust.  How much easier do you want it?  This action of sitting in His presence changes us from the inside out by lifting us up and giving us renewed direction and energy.

Join the many of your fellow parishioners who have made ‘chapel time’ a regular component of their prayer life and found this divine support to be priceless.

 What’s the Secret?

Father Jose’ Calveras, was a Jesuit priest who had a reputation of teaching people how to pray.  Fr. Jose’ is quoted as saying:  “The key to the art of prayer is the prayer of petition.  Many people never learn how to pray because they have never learned to make effective use of petitionary prayer.  The hand outstretched to beg obtains what the hand pressed against ones’ head to think does not.”

If you have not succeeded in prayer it’s not because prayer does not work.  It may be because you’ve not learned how to pray well.

The first law of prayer is: FAITH.  Have you noticed the habit Jesus had of saying to anyone who came to Him for a favor: Do you believe I can do this?  In other words, He always insisted on faith in His power to heal and cure and work miracles.

This teaching of Jesus is no different today than it was 2000 years ago.  So if you are questioning the effectiveness of your prayer heed His teaching when He said, “Have faith in God.  I tell you this: if anyone says to this mountain …”  You know the story.  But there is an important point at the end where Jesus goes on to say “I tell you then, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.”  (Matt 11:20)

Jesus continues to work miracles in response to faith in our day.  Believe and expect only the best.  Chapel time builds Faith.

Good Relationship Takes Time

 All Relationship Takes Time To Grow

We have to remember that building a relationship with God takes time and a commitment to regular communication with Him.  That communication takes the form of talking to Him, as well as sitting in silence so that we can hear what He has to say to us.

We all struggle with juggling responsibilities and sometimes forget to pray during our busy day, and later we find ourselves out of energy.  We ask God to remind us how much He loves us, and how much He wants us to know and love Him in return.  God has said to each of us, "I have called you by name, you are mine," and by doing so He is telling us He will not forget us, and that He is always there for us.

One of the best ways we can build relationship with Him is through Eucharistic Adoration.  'Chapel Time' affords you the opportunity for more and uninterrupted communication, resulting in a better relationship that will carry you into eternity.

If you are not a regular 'adorer' here is your invitation to join those at Immaculate Heart of Mary who adore every week.  Make the commitment ... realize the benefit now, as well as in eternity.

 Are You Praying The Right Way?

Now, here is an important point - you yourself need not have the faith - it is enough that someone else has it for you.

    -  The daughter of Jairus had no faith

    -  As far as we know the servant of the centurion mentioned in Matt 8:15 had no faith

    -  Nor the paralytic of Matt 9:2-8

It was enough that the petitioner, not necessarily the beneficiary, have faith.  But faith there had to be - there was no substitute for it.

In teaching his Apostles about faith Jesus said "Have faith in God.  I tell you this: if anyone says to this mountain ..."  You know the story.  But there is an important point at the end where Jesus goes on to say "I tell you then, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours."  (Matt 11:20)

This law of Faith was well understood by the Apostles, who handed it on to the early Christians, and it has continued cascading down thru history, in the Bible and thru tradition, to the present day.

Jesus continues to work miracles in response to faith in our day.  Believe.  And expect only the best.  Chapel time builds Faith.

Heartfelt Adoration

 Heartfelt Adoration

Adoration must be “in spirit”, which in a sense makes it a loving act of will that as a human being we can do anywhere and at anytime.  You don’t have to be in church, or in the chapel, to adore God in your heart.  The secret to being successful to spontaneously adore in your heart is to condition the heart through ‘chapel time’.

Only the Blessed Mother was able to adore anytime and anywhere … the rest of us have to work at it to be successful.

Adoration ‘in spirit’ allows you to pause whatever it is you are doing, and simply bring to mind the presence of God in your heart.  It is a beautiful and rewarding practice which truly is a gift of the Holy Spirit.  If you cannot do this … you need to practice and to pray.
