Why should you get involved in Eucharistic Adoration?  Your soul might depend on it!

Our Lord Jesus said “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”  (Mt 28:20)

If you are not a regular Eucharistic Adorer, here are three reasons you might want to become one:  1) Adorers develop a deeper relationship with Christ: Spending time in silence and prayer before the Blessed Sacrament allows for a personal and intimate encounter with Jesus Christ, deepening one’s faith and love for him.  2) Adoration allows for Spiritual healing and growth: providing a space for repentance, reconciliation, and the reception of God’s grace, which can lead to inner healing, spiritual renewal, and protection from sin and evil.  3) Spending time in the true presence of Jesus provides courage to face fears, the ability to undertake great things for Christ, and the power to endure trials.  This highlights Adoration’s ability to provide strength in facing life’s challenges and to live a virtuous life.

“I am with you always …” and in his great and wonderful plan of salvation remember that he has been awaiting for you in his real presence for twenty centuries.

The Magic of Faith

Faith is one of the great gifts God has given us.  We can visit the Adoration Chapel and through Faith know we are truly in His Presence and because Jesus is not limited by space and time; sit at the table during the Last Supper, or kneel at the manger along with the Wise Men, or stand next to the weeping Blessed Mother on Calvary.  How is this possible?  Because God has no limits, and for God everything is present.  Believe in his presence and contemplate being with him at any event during his human life.

Good Time for a Change

 Resolution   (Definition: the act or process to find a solution to a negative habit or problem resulting in a change of behavior to make better.)  

Sounds easier than it is … right?  Most of us learned from experience that a few days after making a New Year’s resolution we struggle to remember what that resolution was.  We know that a resolution doesn’t have to be something you give up; it could be a ‘good’ thing you resolve to do more of.  But if you can’t remember, what good is it?  So I ask: Why would you want to put yourself into a similar situation again this year?  You don’t have to.  I offer you the suggestion of an act or process to change that is permeated with Divine Help.

That suggestion is simply to spend more time in the true presence of our God.  Yes, - Chapel Time!  Spending as little as 60 minutes a week insures the development of a good habit that pays dividends for eternity.  Every time you spend any amount of time in the Adoration Chapel sitting quietly in God’s presence He refills your ‘resolve’ bucket to overflowing.  You never run out of desire to ‘make better’.  What a blessing!  And, listen to this; you don’t have to do anything.  That’s right - just sit in his presence and let him do the work.


If you haven’t been to the chapel, now might be a good time to make a ‘resolve’ to change.  We ask for an hour a week; you don’t have to start with that.  But I will tell you from experience it’s the hour every week that goes by the fastest.  God will be pleased with any amount … what is important is the commitment. So whether it’s 15 minutes, a half hour or a full hour, the important thing is to ‘commit’.

The feast of Corpus Christi was established in the year 1264 by Pope Urban IV.  Eucharistic Processions quickly became a part of that celebration and is a way for our parishes to publicly proclaim our belief in Jesus’ True Presence in the Eucharist.

A Eucharistic Procession is an extension of the worship of Jesus Christ, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. The supreme act of adoration and the source and summit of the Christian life is the celebration of the Mass, and that celebration is prolonged and intensified through Eucharistic worship outside of the Mass. In Eucharistic Processions, the missionary aspect of the Eucharist is emphasized as we go forth into the world. Not only gazing upon our Eucharistic Lord, but walking with him, we experience what the disciples did 2000 years ago as they walked with Jesus, proclaiming the Good News to the world.

If you have the opportunity to participate in a Eucharistic Procession on Corpus Christi please do so as affirmation of your belief in the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist.

Let People See God’s Love In You

Make a conscious effort throughout the day to reflect the fire of God’s love in your heart through goodness, joy, forgiveness, peace, and prayer.  A great way to grow His love is to spend face time with our Lord in the chapel.  Now that Summer is here and no school scheduled, fewer people will be stopping by the chapel for a quick visit.  This gives us the opportunity for a much more intimate visit in the True Presence of Our Lord and Savior.

Show God your love for Him by scheduling a weekly visit.

Jesus, Let’s Get Together!

If one of your goals for 2023 is to improve your relationship with Jesus, it’s important to realize any serious attempt requires time and patience.  It’s impossible to experience significant progress in prayer without a daily commitment to meet with God.  It doesn’t have to be a lot of time - but daily dedicated ‘time’ is a requirement.  Set aside a small amount (as little as 10 minutes) every day to simply sit in silence and mentally ask Jesus to help you improve your relationship with him.  He not only will help because he answers every prayer, and he sees the effort you’re willing to put into improving the relationship.  God rewards effort.

As you become more familiar with this practice you naturally will add more time to each prayer session because you realize that Jesus is speaking directly to your heart and you want to get the most you can from the encounter.  It is he who is the true answer of life that we all seek.  We begin to fully appreciate that he is God with us, and we should be seeking him without tiring, welcoming him without reserve, and loving him without interruption: today, tomorrow, forever.

As we continue to build our relationship and to improve from the inside out, we realize the next step in satisfying our desire is to experience his True Presence.  The only way to do that is at Mass or in Eucharistic Adoration.  If you’re serious to get closer then it’s time to commit to an hour of chapel time every week. 

Truly Present - No Mistake

The fathers of Vatican II point out that Christ is indeed present in a variety of ways - in the very intelligibility of the universe, in the gathered assembly at Mass, in the reading of the Scriptures, in the person of the priest - but he is “really, truly, and substantially” present, that is to say, in a qualitatively different way, in the Eucharistic elements.  Thomas Aquinas gave voice to the same conviction when he said that the power of Christ is operative in the other sacraments, but Christ himself is present in the sacrament of the altar.  

Experience his true presence by sitting silently in the chapel and letting his Being wash over you.  If you’re not a regular Adorer we, like Our Lord, invite you to visit and feel his presence.  Once you experience it, you’re encouraged to make a weekly appointment to spend an hour with him.  We all know how important compound interest is to our retirement account; but do you realize that time spent in his presence compounds the value of grace we earn in our heavenly account?

 The Power Of A Word

Pope Benedict XVI, in an essay written in the 1970s, said that transubstantiation is the act by which the Creator grasps the bread and wine by the very roots of their being and transforms them into pure signs, that is to say, into pure bearers of the presence of Jesus, so that they no longer speak of themselves of refer to themselves, but only to Christ.  How is this change brought about?  The Council of Trent said by the power of the words of consecration, which are nothing other than the words of Jesus.

This simple observation gives us a most important key to understanding the Real Presence.  In his How to Do Things with Words, the twentieth-century philosopher of language J. L. Austin observed that language has much more than a descriptive purpose, for at times it can be used to change and affect reality.  If a properly deputized officer of the law says to you, “You’re under arrest,” whether you like it or not, whether the officer’s judgement was sound or not, you are in fact under arrest.  His words have changed reality.  Or if a National League umpire shouts “You’re out” as Anthony Rizzo slides into third base, the  unfortunate Cub is, whether he likes it or not, in point of fact, out.  An umpire’s words can, quite literally, change the course of a game.  Now consider the case of the divine word.  God’s word is not simply descriptive but is rather, in the most powerful sense of the term, creative.  God says, “Let there be light,” and there is light; God says, “Let us make man in our own image and after our likeness,” and so it happened.  The prophet Isaiah reminds us that the divine word goes forth and does not return without accomplishing the purpose for which it was sent.  Now Jesus is not one interesting religious figure among many, not merely a sage or prophet, but rather, as St. John put it, the Word made flesh, Yahweh’s Word in person.  Therefore, what Jesus says, is.  When he said, “Little girl, get up,” she got up; when he said “Lazarus, come out,” the dead man came out, when he said, “My son, your sins are forgiven,” they were forgiven.  The night before he died, Jesus took bread and give thanks, and then said, “Take this all of you and eat it, this is my body.”  In a similar way, after the meal, he took a cup filled with wine and said, “Take this, all of you, and drink from it; this is the cup of my blood.”  The divine word, which creates the universe, can change reality in the most fundamental way.  By the power of the words of the consecration the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ.  The Eucharist - along with creation itself - is the most concentrated instance of a divine word event, and it is for this reason that the church has always insisted on the dense reality of what happens in the Eucharistic change.     Exploring Catholic Theology  Robert Barron  pp170-171

Jesus promises, “I will be with you always” (Mt 28, 20) Take him at his word … he’s waiting.

Fortunately for us he’s patient, but that doesn’t mean you should delay, because you really don’t know how much time you have.  Go spend time in his presence by visiting the Adoration Chapel. 

God Invites You ...

God’s Invitation

God extends an invitation to us to visit Him in Adoration, but He honors our freedom and will not push Himself where He is not wanted.  When we participate in the practice of Eucharistic Adoration, we put ourselves in direct contact with the God of presence and mission.  Our action as adorers pales in the face of God’s action to infusing us with the Spirit of the Divine Being.  We are changed dramatically just by being in this living presence and being open to the action of our gracious God.

Won’t you join your fellow parishioners who pray before the True Presence of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Give back just one hour a week where you can sit in His Presence and let Him work wonders in your heart.

 The Theology of Worship

St Theophan the Recluse taught “The principal thing (about worship) is to stand before God with the mind in the heart, and to go on standing before Him unceasingly day and night, until the end of life”.  Many theologians teach ‘Prayer is relationship’, and the statement of Theophan “To stand before God” implies that worship is an encounter, a meeting between two persons, a relationship. 

St Paul taught earlier in his letter to the Thessalonians - “Pray without ceasing” (1Thes 5:17)  Our entire lifestyle should be one in relationship with God so that we are able to “stand before God … until the end of life”.

To pray is not necessarily to ask God for something; it need not even be to employ words, for often the deepest and most powerful of all prayer is simply to wait upon God in silence.  He knows our heart.

How do you move closer to praying always?  A good way to start is in the Adoration Chapel.  By sitting silently in the True Presence of God; ask the Holy Spirit to help you put your mind in your heart.  By putting mind in heart you enter a different level of relationship with almighty God that will lead to a life of praying without ceasing.

Don’t expect immediate results.  God works on us in His time and in His way.  I can promise that if you are sincere and persistent in your request, you will be successful in improving your relationship with God and your ability to pray without ceasing.

Take Advantage While You Can

“Look and see …”

When you look upon the Sacred Host, YOU LOOK UPON JESUS, the Son of God.  “Indeed, this is the will of My Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life.  Him I will raise up on the last day.”  (Jn 6:40)

Imagine how the souls in purgatory envy us the ability to sit in the presence of the True God.  Don’t waste an opportunity to spend time in this special way in His presence.  There are only so many opportunities afforded to each of us.  Join the ever growing number of parishioners who are praying regularly in the chapel.

Adoration softens the Human Condition and helps us grow spiritually.

As you spend more time in Adoration God begins to communicate with you on a more profound level than that of the five senses.  God’s word moves from you ‘head’ to your ‘heart’.
